Chicken Green Curry TV Dinner and McDonald's for lunch
Hi!
Hope all is well with you. I image you are all going through the usual and not so usual life's trials and tribulations, and as i am not there in verbal communication, i am with you in spirit. I hope that helps to know that you are thought of often and deeply.
I was thinking today, that i haven't really made good friends here yet. I analyzed it and came to the conclusion, that it's because i already have such great friends that i value so much and that i want to save what little time and energy i have for friendships for my good old friends. I also don't really know how to be in a friendship with in this culture. There are so many underlying dos and don'ts and just unspoken communications that are so foreign to this foreign woman, so it makes it quite hard to go deep here and know what the boundaries are etc. I DO work with some exceptional women and we care about each other and it makes a nice working environment. WORK. Well, who would ever have expected me to be in a 9-6 job in an office, with a computer and stress deadlines and business type clothing? Well, i have arrived. I live in a huge city. I live in an apartment-very small about 12'x23''. Has a full bath and shower (with hot water when they get the heater working -tomorrow?) and is ALL black marble (dark is the image), has microwave and small fridge, bult in lighted desk (very cool), a clothes closet, chest of drawes, old color TV with like 10 cable channels ( a few in English), a grey vinyl chair and love seat combo, small glass table, king sized bed with peach satin spread, headboard and full slider door curtains (got the peachy picture?), and a nice balcony witha chair and a view of tin roofed houses 3 stories below. This weekend i bought a little fountain and some plants and so now there is a corner in the house that is peacful and green. The full slider windows and balcony face east, so i can see from my bed the beautiful sunl rising between tall buildings quite aways away.
Thunder hails the rain now-as it is most afternoons and evenings during the rainy season. I slop through many a puddle on my way home from work, Samsonite umbrella open to cover myself and my lucky motorcycle taxi driver if i can find one. My commute is like this: walk (8 minutes) or motorcycle taxi (25cents) to the skytrain. Walk upstairs to take Skytrain (like monorail at Disneyland) for 25Cents one stop. Get off, walk down stairs toward ferry. If early enough get iced latte from favorite vendor (75 cents) and walk to ferry boat (3 minutes). At quarter hours, get on Marriot ferry for pleasant 15 minute ride on river to hotel. Disembark, walk 6 minutes to office on 2nd floor. Turn on computers and away i go for 8 hours +!. Timing is everything, and it seems i am always running to catch the ferry or skytrain that is just about to leave!
So, life is a bit crazy after just having gotten back from Maui, moved into new place and really gotten into the thick of work projects. So busy in fact, that the title of this blog is explained. Yes, Mcdonald's for lunch as i worked at my desk, and a TV dinner tonight. So much for healthy thai foods!!! I have started to run in the park nearby. It is a large area in a Chinese temple with running paths (arrows for direction to go) and 3 different aerobics areas and Tai chi area, large wieght area and grwonover grassy graves surrounding the whoel thing. VERY interesting. Saw 2 other foreigners there exercising, but no contact yet. Had to buy some running gear as below the knee or long pants are the norm even though it is 80+ degrees out....
So, you now have a pretty good vision of my life here.
Talked to mom. she is doing ok, but pretty depresses as she found out she has to have the brace on for another 4 weeks. But, she has increased her weight bearing status to 30%, so that helps and the therapist was sposed to help her get in the car so she can drive! That will help her attitude some.
Well, that's about it. I hope to get to Ayuthaya this weekend for my birthday get-away. But, now that i have thins nice little place of my own, Bangkok isn't so bad!!!
Take care all!
Comment if you like, but sign it ok?!
