Hi!
Been in Auckland for a couple of days visiting new friends (Mike, Joyce and Tiggy the cat), seeing and playing on the beach at the ocean on the east and west, running around suburban ponds, cooking good food and sharing good conversations and histories. What wonderful, generous hosts I have had! It's the 7th and I am back on the road in a few minutes, headed to Rotorua. I am posting some photos- funny- where are all of the photos of sheep??? I never seem to be able to pull off the road to take photos of them- but there ARE so many, covering the green hillsides. Have had some heavy rain- usually at night, so no problems. DID do a very nice 2 hour hike up to the lookout tower in the Kauri Forest where I got POURED on for about 45 mins of the hike. BUT, I had my raincoat and trusty umbrella (yes, in the forest) and had a nice , slippery hike anyway. Traveled from the Northeast at Paihia (last blog) across the country to the northwest and down the West coast through the Waipoua kauri forest and into the kumara farming flats near Wellsford just north of Auckland. Bought a big bag of Kuara (like garnet yams but SO much better) from a roadside stand and had some baked for dinner last night- tender and sweet!!! YUM! So much beautiful country here!!!!

Well, will post some photos and get on the road!!!
Hugs to you all!
